Live music, stand-up comedy and a one-mile fun walk through the Richard and Annette Bloch Cancer Survivors Park marked Sacramento's third annual National Cancer Survivors Day celebration at UC Davis Cancer Center.
Sista Monica Parker, a powerhouse gospelblues- jazz singer and cancer survivor from Santa Cruz, performed her original songs, while Sausalito inspirational comedienne Terri Tate showed that humor can be found anywhere — even in her two bouts with disfiguring oral cancer. KCRA reporter and anchor Tom DuHain, a survivor of Hodgkin's disease, was master of ceremonies.
Celebrated the first weekend in June in more than 170 communities around the country, National Cancer Survivors Day honors the 9 million Americans who are living with a history of cancer. Sacramento's event was sponsored by UC Davis Cancer Center and supported by the American Cancer Society, Healing Journeys, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Sacramento Prostate Cancer Support Group, Save Ourselves and Y-ME Northern California.
