Dr. Allen knows well that seizures are life altering events and seeks to create a welcoming, safe environment where patients can feel comfortable accessing care that meets their individual goals. Her objective is to form a partnership with patients and their families in order to make decisions together that will cater to their specific needs. She works to ensure her patients feel thoroughly informed of their options and empowered to help shape their treatment path.
Dr. Allen is a neurologist with fellowship training in epilepsy. She cares for patients with all types of epilepsy, but focuses specifically on diagnosing and treating drug-resistant seizures. Dr. Allen is able to offer evaluation and planning for surgical options for the control of epilepsy. Clinically, she has a special interest in racial and ethnic disparities in health care, and ensuring wide availability of services to all.
Dr. Allen’s research focuses on issues of global public health and provision of care in low resource settings. She is currently collaborating with a research group in Peru studying a condition called neurocysticercosis, a common cause of epilepsy in low to middle income nations.
