Dr. Heard's philosophy of care is centered on supporting both patients and their families throughout every stage of recovery, from the first hospital encounter to long-term follow-up. He takes a holistic approach, treating not only the burn injury itself but also addressing the physical, emotional, and social needs that are essential to healing and resilience.
Dr. Jason Heard is a board-certified general surgeon with additional certification in surgical critical care. He specializes in the care of adult and pediatric burn patients at UC Davis Medical Center and Shriners Hospitals for Children. Dr. Heard provides comprehensive treatment across the continuum of burn care—from the initial management of acute injuries to long-term outpatient follow-up and reconstructive procedures, including advanced laser surgery. His clinical expertise includes burn resuscitation, burn sepsis, and the management of complex, large-surface-area burn injuries. Dedicated to delivering innovative, high-quality care, Dr. Heard is committed to improving outcomes and quality of life for burn survivors.
Dr. Heard's research is centered on enhancing outcomes for extensive burn injuries, developing methods for timely identification of sepsis in burn patients, reconstructive surgeries and utilizing innovative surgical technologies to enhance burn surgery. Furthermore, he collaborates closely with medical students and surgical residents to augment burn education and knowledge for all healthcare professionals, irrespective of their specialization in burn care.
